Containers
The largest combined terminal along the Danube River is operated by WienCont - a subsidiary of the Port of Vienna - on an area 120,000 m² in size. It offers a full range of services and is one of Europe's most modern terminals, featuring a unique double-sided momentum-driven gateway for locomotives ("Schwungeinfahrt") and a direct rail connection.
Container handling
Container loads in the range of 6 to 45 tonnes are handled by overhead cranes with a maximum lifting power of 45 tonnes each (there have been three of them since 2013) as well as mobile handling equipment. Additionally, the Port of Vienna boasts a modern motor pool. Approximately 90 block trains per week travel to the major European seaports (Hamburg, Rotterdam etc.).
Container depot
Boasting a container space of over 10,000 TEU, WienCont’s depot provides sufficient storage, checking and repair capacities and has been used by ship owners, leasing firms and forwarding agents for centuries. Excellently trained checkers are available to perform container checks in conformity with modern standards.
Stuffing and stripping of containers
Our staff is specially trained in container stuffing and works exclusively with VDI2700a guidelines.
Renting and purchasing containers
Our container terminal has a choice of standardised containers as well as new and second-hand specialised containers. Our own fleet of rental containers comprises mainly storage containers and shipping containers. Additionally, office containers and sanitary containers (for public events) are available. All containers may also be hired.
Repair
In case your container gets damaged, our specially trained and experienced specialists at the 600 m² repair workshop will be there to fix your problem – with maximum flexibly and in next to no time.
Our repair staff repairs around ten thousand 20-ft and 40-ft containers every year and leaves them in perfect condition for you to pick up. Optional services include special container rebuilds and repair of team containers. Being a member of Bundesverband der Container-Servicebetriebe e.V., the Port of Vienna is dedicated to ensuring its customers top-quality services which have been tested and authorised by Germanischer Lloyd (GL).
